Implications of Radical Quality
The blend of principles from the quality sciences, organization development, adult education and creative thinking that constitute radical quality offers a variety of implications for our understanding of how organizations function.
The radical quality perspective draws on our understanding of systems theory from the field of organizational development and the implementation of quality methods always occurs within the context of systems theory.
We know there is a great overlap between the implementation of quality practices and group dynamics – particularly when it comes to the functioning of teams – which is a subject of study in organizational development. The understanding of the efficacy of team performance is enhanced by the use of reflective practice, as advocated by adult educators.
Adult education principles are important to teaching people about the concepts and methodologies embodied in radical quality. Likewise, there are many aspects of planning, both tactical and strategic, that are important to the overall practice of radical quality that deserve further consideration.
Finally, there are two sections located in this part of the web site that focus on the application of quality principles to the education sector. One focuses on the meaning of quality in education and raises a number of observations about quality in education. The other item reviews the nature of effectively involving faculty and staff in strategic planning activities for schools, academic departments, colleges, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies.
